GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 7th édition Originally designed as ephemeral constructions for Expo 67, the former France and Quebec pavilions never cease to amaze by their longevity. True architectural Phoenix, these atypical volumes have been housing the Montreal Casino since the 1990’s. In order to live up to the sense of wonder it has been creating for so many years, the establishment had to be given a makeover. The modernization of this architectural icon was assigned to the consortium Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux / Provencher Roy Architectes, who won the Public Space Award and the Special Surface Award for this achievement.

The Montreal Casino was the first among the two to be founded for the project and cost $95 million to build. The casino replaced the Palais des civilisations which used to showcase international cultural exhibitions and used to be home to the French pavilion of Expo 67.
