Obélisque oblique (Oblique Obelisk), which sits outside the Montrela Casino, was executed by Henri-Georges Adam in 1962. A gift from France, it was installed at the French Pavilion at the 1967 World Exhibition site. The Casino de Montréal, located on the Île Notre-Dame, is the largest casino in Canada, and among the top ten largest in the world. The casino consists of three buildings–the five-floored concrete, steel, and aluminum French Pavilion and the adjacent Quebec Pavilion, both built for Expo 67, and an annex built by the casino.

Montreal’s casino is getting a hotel. Loto-Quebec announced Monday that a 200-room hotel is set to be built on the grounds of the Casino de Montreal at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
There is some opposition, with city councillor Craig Sauvé denouncing the project. He said it will serve “affluent clientele beautiful views of the Formula 1 track from the balconies of its luxurious suites, but it’s Montrealers who will lose out as they lose access to an entire sector in the centre of Île Notre-Dame.
